In the peaceful Lubowa neighborhood of Kampala, the coed International School of Uganda (ISU) is a day school with a green campus. Our school is a nonprofit enterprise that is run by parents.
With a founding date of 1967, we are the most senior foreign school in Uganda. Over 60 different nationalities make up our neighborhood.
The mission of the International School of Uganda (ISU) is to “provide world-class, holistic education in a multi-cultural setting, inspiring and empowering students to be lifelong learners, to realize their full potential, and to be responsible global citizens actively shaping the future.”
ISU is the only school in Uganda offering three full International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes:
Primary Years Programme (PYP) for ages 3 to 11;
Middle Years Programme (MYP) for ages 11 to 16;
Diploma Programme (DP) for ages 16 to 19.
Our Early Childhood accepts children from the age of 2 ½ years.
The Curriculum
The International School of Uganda’s faculty members employ the most cutting-edge, evidence-based teaching strategies, centered on a dynamic, international curriculum that satisfies a universal standard for the best education possible—the widely recognized and prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes. The IB Primary Years Programme serves as the foundation for the Junior School’s Early Childhood through Grade 5 curriculum. The curriculum emphasizes the child’s social, physical, emotional, and cultural growth while also giving them a solid foundation in all subject areas. It offers structured inquiry, a method of learning that is continued in the other two IB programs.
For students in grades 6 through 10, the IB Middle Years Programme serves as the main educational focus at the Senior School. The inter-disciplinary learning approach fosters critical thinking and communication skills in students while providing an academically demanding and stimulating course of study.
Students who are in grades 11 and 12 undertake the IB Diploma Program. This course of study, which is the “gold standard” of high school diplomas and the cutting edge of secondary education today, enables pupils to broaden their views and push their intellectual limits.
